How To Choose Your Anger & How To Change Your Anger: Devotional Psalm 37:

Anger. The Bible talks about different kinds of anger--like righteous and selfish anger.

Anger is often our emotion when we can't control the outcome of circumstances and people. Most anger comes from a place of selfish desire to have our way and not be disturbed or hurt by others.

I used to live my life being quick to anger. Most people who come from toxic environments or abuse are quick to anger as a protective measure from being hurt. The brain goes into fight mode and critical thinking and listening aren't available--those parts of the brain shut down.

When we are angry our brains can't give us creative thinking, unique perspectives, and the ability to empathize. And if we can't empathize then we dehumanize and demonize the people in the circumstances.

God's word calls for us to pray for those that hurt us. In the midst of the pain and anger cry out to God for the other person to come to a salvation knowledge of God and for their hearts and minds to be transformed. I often pray for those that hurt me when the enemy tries to stir my anger with a memory of the hurt or injustice done to me.

And as we pray our brains can start to switch over from fight mode into creative thinking mode. We can chose whether to stay angry or allow God to fight our battles for us. We can chose how to view the other person and the circumstances in a unique way that will allow God to work all things for our good and His Kingdom agenda.

God wants us to choose how we will handle our anger. And God wants us to choose prayer and patience for His action, His return, and how we will share the light of Christ with all those around us.

When we choose to speak and act from a place of righteous light, our words are different, our actions are different, and the outcomes are far better.

So let's choose today to pray for those that are hurting us, to act with righteous action like standing and speaking for injustice, showing mercy, putting healthy boundaries in place. God never called us to stay in toxic relationships.

Let's choose prayer. Let's choose to listen when it's appropriate with a mind and heart to recognize that most people are hurt people who haven't gotten the counseling and coaching they need so desperately for their mindset issues.

Let's choose to share the word of God. Let's choose to share the gospel in part and in whole when it's appropriate. Let's choose to act differently then the world acts. Let's put away all malice, course talk, and vengeful actions--for revenge is the Lords and more importantly we want people to find salvation and healing and that is in God's hands.
