Do you replay past events and decisions over and over in your mind?
One tool that I have found so helpful in the fight to be mentally and emotionally strong is rebuking the mental conversation about my past decisions, sins, mistakes, failures, etc.
The more we rerun our past broken and hurtful encounters the more we remain hurt, broken, and stuck in the past.
God never said dwell on the past and you'll be blessed--He says He has cast our sin as far as the east is to the west never to be remembered. So why do we allow ourselves the emotional flogging of mulling over and over past mistakes and hurts?
We can't change anything in the past. We can't undo words said or stop hurtful moments. We can't atone for sins that have current consequences--this for me is the hardest. It's often easy now for me to stop a hurtful memory and pray blessings over the person who hurt me. But, I struggle currently with not dwelling on the past mistake that is causing my current situation to be more difficult.
BUT, what does it help to sit and emotionally stew, flog, and mull over something that can't be changed?
Let's work today to walk in the forgiveness that is already ours. Let's ask for God to help us rebuke the running commentary about circumstances we can't change. Let's ask God to bless our eyes and mind to see solutions that we can act on today instead of wishing we weren't facing the circumstance. Let's ask God to help us grow through the hard time and walk the road with courage and stamina through His Holy Spirit.
Let's pray: Jesus we sing praises to Your name! We thank You for forgiveness. We praise You that our sins are no more.
Lord Jesus help us to rebuke the thoughts that tear us down. Help us Jesus to stand on Your Holy word.
Please Lord give us the energy to strive forward and do all that needs to be done today to bring about the abundant life in You.
In Jesus name, we pray, Amen
