Choosing Favor and Wisdom OR Complaining and Despair
Joseph was a boy who didn't have wisdom to discern what to share and what not to share and incited massive jealousy. While there is no excuse for his brother's actions, God used their evil to further a plan that no one could have seen.
Joseph grew in wisdom during the trials and challenges that he faced. He spent time serving as a slave. He served so well that he was elevated to the head of a significant household. Then more evil and jealousy turned Joseph's life upside down again. From the top he was plunged to the bottom of the pits of prison. No one would believe his innocence and no one seemed to care.
Joseph had the opportunity and truly the right to wallow in defeat, dismay, discouragement, and anger at the unfairness of life. However, Joseph chose a different path of behavior. He chose to serve in a prison. He chose to garner the favor of God by serving wherever he was and eventually worked his way up in stature even in prison.
Years passed in a place where despair was mostly likely the easiest option and the one most embraced by all those around him. I can imagine how hard it must have been to stay positive, to serve well, to not complain and rail against the injustice of it all until bitter and broken. However, Joseph continued a path of growth. Wisdom and serving marked his life so much that God elevated him to the highest level possible beside Pharaoh.
